Overview of Academic Senate Committees

The Academic Senate at Río Hondo College is dedicated to promoting student success, faculty development, and effective governance. Our committees play a key role in shaping academic policies, guiding curriculum development, and fostering a supportive educational environment. Below is a list of our active committees, each working to advance the mission and goals of the college.

Academic Rank Committee

The Academic Rank Committee reviews applications for rank advancement, verifying qualifications and submitting approved applications to the President of the Academic Senate for final approval.

Curriculum Committee

The Curriculum Committee reviews course and program proposals for approval, with deadlines for the 2025-2026 catalog including October 25th for submissions and November 6th for first readings.

Distance Education Committee

The Distance Education Committee develops and recommends standards for online education, ensures compliance with legal requirements, and advises on training and course management systems.

Guided Pathways Steering Committee

The Guided Pathways Steering Committee recommends direction, design, and implementation strategies for Guided Pathways to enhance student success, close equity gaps, and improve program completion.

Instructional Technology Committee

The Instructional Technology Committee advises on classroom and online teaching technologies, recommends software and hardware, and evaluates training opportunities to enhance instructional technology use.

Open Educational Resources Committee

The Open Educational Resources Committee promotes the use of OER, ZTC, and LTC resources, tracks related legislation, supports faculty adoption, and shares updates with the Río Hondo College community via the Academic Senate.

Outcomes Committee

The Outcomes Committee, part of the Academic Senate, sets policy for Student and Institutional Learning Outcomes, supports their creation and review, and ensures alignment with program review, planning, and budgeting.

Staff Development Committee

The Staff Development Committee, part of the Academic Senate, supports faculty in meeting Flexible calendar obligations and coordinates professional development activities campus-wide.
