Psychological Services
Psychological Services is here to help you with your mental health needs. Inner peace and finding pockets of joy in this imperfect world can help us all.
We are committed to supporting your academic success and personal development. We have therapists available for students who would like help managing life’s challenges: a full-time Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Glenn Heap, Marriage and 5 Marriage & Family Therapist Trainees: Magdalena Vazquez-Lizardi, Jenny Lam, Espy Castillon, Kaila Lamb, and Ivonne Guerrero.
We offer short-term counseling for students who are struggling with issues such as stress, anxiety, anger, depression and grief. A desire to heal from trauma, to build healthy relationships, to consider one’s gender and sexuality, to manage life’s transitions and to face “adulting” challenges are some of the topics that Rio students discuss confidentially with our therapists in individual and group sessions.

Campus Partner
If you have experienced domestic violence or sexual assault in your past, or recently, please refer to our campus partner for free individual counseling. To request an appointment, please call the East LA Women’s Center at 1(800) 585-6231. If you meet this criteria, you can receive long term counseling through ELAWC to discuss anything that you are dealing with.
Individual Counseling
Individual counseling services are designed for students who can benefit from short-term counseling (each session is 45 minutes long). If the situation requires longer-term counseling or possible medication management, the student will likely be referred to an off-campus resource.
