The post-truth era poses unprecedented challenges for student researchers who must navigate fake news, conspiracy theories, hoaxes, propaganda, counterfeit publishers, sponsored content, and deep fake videos on their way to identifying accurate information. Do we let artificial intelligence determine what’s true and what’s not? Do we trust in the panaceas of fact-checking sites, federal legislation, media watchdog groups, or social media self-regulation? No, as classroom instructors we must rely on ourselves (with the support of librarians) as the most effective means of preparing students to confront today’s post-truth challenges.
