External Event: Re-Designing Organizations to Increase Equity and Student Success in Postsecondary Education
October 29, 2021 @ 10:00 am - 12:30 pm
The idea of higher education as an engine of social mobility is widespread and attractive. Yet higher education is also an engine of social reproduction, reinforcing inequities and concentrating access to opportunity and wealth in the highest income families. There are systemic barriers in colleges and universities that prevent higher education from reaching its potential for social mobility for students from low-income backgrounds. Dr. Renn will present an ecological systems approach to redesigning organizations to identify and address barriers to success for first-generation, low-income, and racially minoritized college students. This event is sponsored by California State University Educational Leadership, Student Affairs, and the Cynthia Johnson Endowment.
Presenter: Dr. Kristin A. Renn, Professor & Associate Dean, Michigan State University
