Description:
This 120-hour course is designed to satisfy the Public Safety Dispatcher minimum training as required by P.O.S.T. Regulation 1018(d). This course introduces new dispatchers to the basic requirements of their jobs. The Public Safety Dispatch Basic Course introduces the necessary skills and knowledge to work in a law enforcement communications center in a productive and professional manner.
The course also prepares each student for the basic roles, responsibilities, and duties of a public safety dispatcher within the law enforcement agency. The minimum training requirements for the Public safety dispatcher basic course can be found here Commission Procedure D-1.
A certificate of completion is issued upon course completion.
** NOTE**
The class is not limited to public safety personnel. It is open to all dispatchers and those seeking a career as a 911 Dispatcher. This course is required to become a Dispatcher, but does not imply or guarantee employment. You must go through the application process with the respective agency. Requirements vary from one agency to another, while most require this course, some do not.
You will receive a certificate upon completion, however, this is NOT the Public Safety Dispatcher Certificate awarded by P.O.S.T. This certificate is issued after you have been hired as a full-time Dispatcher, completed the Dispatcher course, and a 12-month probationary period.
