Student Center
This center in S205 serves as the home base for MESA Students. Here you can study, meet with your peers, participate in workshops and have meetings.
Student Clustering
Whenever possible MESA students sign up together for the same section of the core courses. The Mesa program facilitates this by offering early registration for its participants. This allows students in the program to study together and support each other.
Priority Enrollment
MESA students in good standing are able to enrolling courses in advance of regular registration. More information on priority registration is available here.
Academic Excellence Workshops
Academic Excellence Workshops (AEW) are extra sessions that MESA students participate in to become more familiar with the material, develop successful study habits. AEWs have been proven to lead students to better grades and more success. More information on the AEWs is available here.
Introduction to MESA Course (Math 49)
This 1 unit course introduces the new MESA student to essential skills for STEM study.
Academic Counseling
Students meet with the STEM Counselor headquartered in the MESA Center.
Transfer Advising and Support
Students receive personalized assistance in planning their transfer to the universities of their choice.
Comprehensive Educational Plans
With the STEM counselor, students plan their Rio Hondo College education through transfer and graduation.
Connection to Student and Professional Organizations
In addition to the Society of Science club, students have the opportunity to participate in professional conferences like the national conferences of the Society for the Advancement of Chicanos/Hispanics and Native Americans in Science (SACNAS) and the Society of Toxicology.
Professional Development Workshops and Career Advising
The MESA/TRiO SSS STEM programs hold workshops that help students develop critical skills and knowledge that aids in their future professional lives.
