The goals of the Mathematics, Engineering, Science Achievement (MESA) Program and the TRiO Student Support Services STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) Program are to support student retention and success by providing a STEM study center with academic services such as tutoring, academic excellence workshops specific to major preparation courses, academic and career advising, professional development, financial literacy and networking opportunities.
The staff is committed to provide a welcoming, caring environment that embraces the unique qualities and strengths that each participant embodies, lend each member essential academic and personal support, and challenge each participant to persist, excel, and accomplish successful transfer to a 4-year institution of their choice.
MESA has particular interest in and focus on students from those groups who historically have had the lowest levels of attainment to four-year and graduate level programs and is funded by the California Community College Chancellor’s Office. Rio Hondo College’s MESA program is nationally recognized for its outstanding service to its students by ¡Excelencia! in Education.
TRiO Student Support STEM is funded by the U.S. Department of Education and designed to support first generation undergraduate college and/or low income students majoring in STEM and pursuing transfer to a 4-year institution in a STEM major.
