To members of the media,
On behalf of Río Hondo College, we are offering our deepest condolences on the loss of two officers from the El Monte Police Department who were killed in the line of duty on June 14. Our hearts especially go out to the families of the two officers, and to everyone in the community who is impacted by this tragedy.
On June 15, we learned the heartbreaking news that one of the two slain officers was a graduate of Río Hondo College’s Police Academy program. Corporal Michael Paredes was a dedicated 22-year veteran of the El Monte Police Department and was a sterling cadet when he graduated as part of class 158 from our police academy training program back in 2001.
Our College has a longstanding and strong partnership with the El Monte Police Department and we truly appreciate the risks both officers took every day to serve and protect our community.
Maintaining a safe and secure community is our College’s highest priority. We are profoundly grateful to our local law enforcement agencies for their service in helping to keep our students and our communities safe.
Warm regards,
Superintendent/President Teresa Dreyfuss and the Río Hondo College Board of Trustees
