WHITTIER – Former Río Hondo College Superintendent/President Teresa Dreyfuss will lead the College as its acting chief administrator starting Thursday, July 30.
Dreyfuss started at the College as a part-time faculty member in 1987 and rose through the ranks to become interim superintendent/president in 2012. She assumed the job permanently the following year.
She is credited with overseeing $300 million in construction projects, opening three regional campuses and leading the College through the Great Recession. She also started a program that gave students free tuition for their first two years. She retired in June 2019.
“As acting superintendent/president, Ms. Dreyfuss has committed to ensuring that Río Hondo College remains fiscally strong while focusing on student success,” Board of Trustees President Oscar Valladares said.
“I couldn’t think of anyone more eminently qualified to lead our District during this critical time. Her previous stellar performance provided the Board with the full confidence to allow her to lead Río Hondo College during the interim,” he added.
Current Superintendent/President Dr. Arturo Reyes went on leave July 14. Vice President of Academic Affairs Dr. Laura Ramirez served as chief administrator until Dreyfuss’ arrival.
