2009 Bellwether Award
The Bellwether Awards annually recognize outstanding and innovative programs and practices that are successfully leading community colleges into the future. Applications for the 2009 awards were competitively reviewed and finalists were selected based on how well the programs addressed: 1) the conference theme; 2) the identified critical issue; 3) the published criteria. The categories in which awards are given include:
-
Instructional Programs & Services: Programs or activities that have been designed and successfully implemented to foster or support teaching and learning in the community college.
-
Planning, Governance & Finance: Programs or activities that have been designed and successfully implemented to improve efficiency and effectiveness in the community college.
-
Workforce Development: Public and/or private strategic alliances and partnerships that promote community and economic development.
Ten finalists, one of which was Rio Hondo’s GO RIO Program, were selected in each category. Finalists were required to present at the 2009 CC Futures Assembly and were encouraged to provide evidence of program results. GO RIO was selected as the 2009 Bellwether Award winner in the Planning, Governance, & Finance category. As a result, Rio Hondo College was invited to write and submit an article regarding GO RIO to be published in the Community College Journal of Research and Practice in early 2010.
