What if I am on Probation?
Students who do not achieve a GPA of at least 2.0 and/or do not complete at least 50% of their courses will be placed on academic and/or progress probation. The first semester students will receive a warning and will be directed to resources to help get them back on track. However, students who remain on probation for more than 1 semester will lose registration priority and California College Promise Grant (formerly known as BOG waiver). Students are notified of their probation status through their Rio Hondo College email at the end of each Fall and Spring semester.
On-line, on-demand workshops are available 24/7 for your convenience.

First Warning Probation
If this is your first time on probation, you are strongly encourage to complete an Academic/Progress Probation Workshop or meet with a Counselor. Doing so will help you better understand your probation status and learn about student support services. Probation workshops are available in person or on-line, or you can choose to meet with a Counselor in person. Please call the Counseling Center at (562) 908-3410 to schedule an appointment.
Final Warning Probation
Students who remain on probation for two semesters will no longer be eligible for priority registration or California College Promise Grant (formerly known as BOG waiver). Registration dates will be reinstated within 48 hours of completing the on-line workshops, in person working, or after meeting with a Counselor.
Students can appeal to keep their Enrollment Priority (registration appointment) and/or California College Promise Grant (formerly known as BOG waiver).
Dismissal
Students who remain on probation for more than two semesters are required to sit out one semester (excluding summer session). This can be appealed by meeting with a Counselor and completing a Reinstatement Petition prior to the start of the following semester. Please call the Counseling Center at (562) 908-3410 to schedule an appointment.
