The Department of English at Rio Hondo College offers students two AA Degrees in English, a variety of courses in composition, literature, as well as other opportunities to advance their skills in writing, reading, and language. In addition to our composition courses, we offer many courses in literature, ranging from introductory courses to survey courses in American, British, and World literature. The Department also offers focused courses in poetry, drama, the short story, and the novel, as well as courses specializing in women’s and children’s literature and Shakespeare.
We are pleased to feature a Creative Writing Club, which sponsors many opportunities for students to share and showcase their writing. The English Department also produces River’s Voice, a journal of art and literature, and an annual Writes of Spring festival that features both student and professional writing and writers.
