Benefits of Membership

  • Your membership in this Statewide Community College Scholastic Honor Society is recorded on your official college transcript. This greatly benefits you when applying for scholarships, transferring to a university or even when applying for a job!
  • Graduation with Honors: Permanent members graduate with honors and qualify to wear the gold cord and stole.
  • Awards and Scholarships: AGS offers statewide awards and scholarships for which any qualified member may apply.
  • Opportunity to discover and develop leadership abilities as an officer or a committee chairperson.
  • Opportunity to meet new and exciting people, network with and expand your circle of friends
  • Opportunities to be recognized as both a scholar and a student who cares and contributes to the betterment of the college and local community via volunteer services participation.

Membership Types

Initial Membership

You have completed at least 12 semester units of college work and have a 3.0 GPA.

Temporary Membership

  • This is your first semester in college and you graduated from a high school with at least 3.5 GPA.
  • Or you are a lifetime member of the California Scholarship Federation (CSF) entering your first semester of college.

Continuing Membership

  • Good standing with the club
  • Maintain a 3.0 GPA or better
  • Grace Period: Continuing members will receive one (1) grace period if enrolled in at least 9 units the last semester and had at least a 3.0 GPA at the beginning of that last semester. Membership is recognized only if a 3.0 GPA is restored by the end of the current semester.

Permanent Membership

  • Any member who has completed 60 semester units of recognized college courses, with a minimum of 30 units completed at a community college (not necessarily RHC).
  • Has maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or better on all college courses completed and has been an ‘Active’ member of AGS in good standing for at least one (1) semester.

OR

  • Any member who has completed 60 semester units of recognized college courses, with a minimum of 30 units completed at a community college (not necessarily RHC).
  • A continuing member who has maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or better and has been an ‘Active’ member of AGS in good standing for at least two (2) semesters.

Membership Status

A request to change membership classification or status will be accepted by the Advisor, only within 14 days of submission of application; after which it shall remain so for the remainder of the current semester. No further changes will be made thereafter.

Active

Must complete 30 service points during the current semester applied for; 15 of these service points must be on-campus volunteer hours, with 8 points dedicated to an AGS-sponsored event or fundraiser; the other 10 service points specifically for off-campus community service.

Inactive

Must complete 10 service points during the current semester applied for; with a minimum of 4 service points devoted to AGS functions and events; the remainder to be either all on or off-campus volunteer time contributed. Inactive members are ineligible to apply for any AGS scholarships, nor attend the regional and/or state conference; as well as forfeit their right to vote or run for any leadership position.
