Psychology is, simply, the study of behavior. The faculty emphasize the value of developing critical thinking and learning competencies in order for students to build their knowledge base and reach their academic goals. The psychology department at Rio Hondo College offers a wide array of courses that provides students with an understanding of the various aspects of psychology and offers both certificates and degrees.
The AA-T in Psychology is intended to meet the lower division requirements for Psychology majors (or majors that have been deemed similar) at a CSU campus that offers a B.A. in Psychology. This degree is designed for students interested in an introduction to the field of psychology and for students looking to further their understanding of the biological, psychological, and environmental influences on human behavior.
An undergraduate degree remains excellent preparation for continued graduate work in psychology or in another field, such as business, medicine, or computer science. Many employers are interested in the skills that psychology majors bring to collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data and their experience with statistics and experimental design. Students with BAs in psychology find jobs in administrative support, public affairs, education, business, sales, service industries, health, the biological sciences and computer programming. They may also work as employment counselors, correction counselor trainees, interviewers, personnel analysts, probation officers and writers.
