Background
The Ethnic, Gender, and Sexuality Studies (EGSS) program was conceived in 2019 by faculty in the Behavioral and Social Sciences division who wanted to bring more classes and degrees relating to social justice to the Rio Hondo College campus. With the signing of Assembly Bill 1460, which requires students entering college in 2021 to complete a course in Ethnic Studies, the need for this program became even more pronounced.
Currently, the program addresses three different areas, with plans in place to add more in the future. These include Ethnic Studies, Women’s Studies, and Sexuality Studies.
