Industry-expert faculty will teach you to communicate graphically and interpret design concepts. All of Río Hondo’s instructors have personal experience in the industry. They share practical knowledge and bring real-life stories and examples into the classroom.
You’ll get hands-on experience with visual communication technologies like computer-aided design and drafting and building information modeling. Students have access to Río Hondo’s state-of-the-art computer workstations featuring industry-leading software and peripheral equipment, as well as an advanced modeling and prototyping facility equipped with 3D printers. Río Hondo’s impressive infrastructure and server configuration support a 150+ workstation environment.

The Río Hondo College Architecture, Civil, Engineering Design Drafting (ACEDD) Department is comprised of three distinct yet related focus areas: architectural drafting, civil drafting, and engineering design drafting. These subsets all share an emphasis on visual communication and drafting.
It’s the overlapping nature of these distinct areas of study and eventual employment that’s one of the greatest strengths of Río Hondo’s ACEDD Department. Their similarities allow you to use your entry-level courses to evaluate and identify an appropriate area of focus before choosing follow-up courses. If civil drafting is your chosen path, Río is one of only four California community colleges that offer a program specific to civil design drawing.
Within Río Hondo’s ACEDD Department, you can easily expand and diversify your education and training in the different drafting fields. This makes you more versatile and marketable to potential employers.
