REQUIREMENTS
As of April 1, 2024, it is a P.O.S.T. requirement to submit medical clearance prior to taking a PC832 class. Medical clearance forms must be dated within 90 days of the class start date and submitted on the first day of class.
Students who do not have the form will be dropped. NO EXCEPTIONS.

CLASS DETAILS:
The Arrest course is offered as a week long training.
The Arrest training consists of 30 hours of classroom instruction, covering topics such as Professionalism and Ethics, Criminal Justice System, Search and Seizure, Report Writing, Use of Force and Laws of Arrest.
The last 10 hours of the course is spent learning and practicing physical arrest methods including searching, handcuffing, and control holds.

CLASS DETAILS:
The Firearms course is offered as a 24 hour training course to be taken AFTER completion PC832 Arrest (40 hour course).
The training is held on Thursday and Friday evenings from 6:00 pm-10:00 pm and Saturday-Sunday from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm. The training is limited to handgun techniques only. The first day is spent in the classroom and includes safety and hands on familiarization of the firearm. Days two through four are spent on the range. On the final day, the student must qualify with the firearm by successfully passing a state-standardized course of fire. Students must provide their own Firearm (based on an approved Weapons List which will be sent to the student at the time of sign up). Ammunition is provided with this course and is covered by the material fee. Students must provide their own ear and eye protection.
State law requires that prior to participating in the firearms course; students must obtain a firearm clearance through a criminal records check conducted by submission of fingerprints. The fingerprints are submitted through Live Scan system. Fees for Live Scan are not included in course fee.
FIREARMS PREREQUISITE:
Proof of Completion of PC 832 Arrest (POST profile) and DOJ clearance (Live Scan fingerprinting).
The Rio Hondo College Regional Training center has been certified by the Commission on Peace Officer’s Standards and Training (POST) to present PC 832 Arrest and Firearms Courses.
The PC 832 Arrest and Firearms Course (PC 832 Course) is the minimum training standard for California peace officers as specified in Commission Regulation 1005.
PC 832 ARREST AND FIREARMS CLASS INFORMATION
Curriculum
The Arrest and Firearms (PC 832) course consists of two components, which total a minimum of 64 hours. The Arrest component has a 40-hour requirement, and the Firearms component has a 24-hour requirement. These components are divided into 14 individual topics, called Learning Domains. The Learning Domains contain the minimum required foundational information for given subjects. The training and testing specifications for a particular domain may also include information on required instructional activities and testing requirements.
Tests
The Arrest component includes a 100-question, multiple-choice written examination and several skill examinations on Arrest and Control Techniques. The Firearms component includes a firearms range qualification examination. All tests are graded pass/fail, with one retest opportunity per examination. If a retest is failed, the corresponding component of the PC 832 Course must be repeated in its entirety.
Requalification Requirement (Three Year Rule)
As specified in Commission Regulation 1080, requalification of PC 832 training is required before exercising peace officer powers when:
- An individual does not become employed as a peace officer within three years of successful completion of PC 832 training, or
- An individual, completes PC 832 training, and subsequently has a three-year-or-longer break in service as a peace officer.
At the Rio Hondo College Regional Training Center, PC832 training is delivered in two separate courses; one course of 40 hours for the Arrest portion and a second course of 24 hours for Firearms.
Admissions Requirements
Rio Hondo College is a public community college under California law. Legal requirements pertaining to residence must be honored. At the time of registration, all students will be required to file a “statement of residence”. Withholding or falsifying pertinent information on this form could be reason for dismissal. Students living in California for at least 12 consecutive months may attend Rio Hondo College and pay resident fees (subject to terms and conditions of the college policy, state regulations, and federal law). California non-residents who have graduated from a California high school may qualify for the non-resident tuition exemption (AB540).
Non Resident Students
Education Code Section 76140 requires that non-resident students tuition be charged to students who are not residents of the state of California and who attend public community colleges within the state.
