Annual security reports are published in compliance with Section 201 of P.L. 101-542, as amended by P.L. 102-26, of the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, also known as the Clery Act.

What is the Clery Act?

The Clery Act is named in memory of Jeanne Clery, a Lehigh University student who tragically lost her life to an act of violence in her dorm room on April 5, 1986. It was established to promote transparency in campus safety. Following her death, Jeanne’s parents advocated for legislation that mandates the reporting of campus crime data. Enacted in 1990, the Clery Act requires all colleges and universities participating in federal financial aid programs to track and publicly share information regarding crimes on and around their campuses. Compliance with the Clery Act is overseen by the U.S. Department of Education.
