Your journey to achieving your academic goals is important to us! Submitting a graduation petition is the first step to officially applying for your degree or certificate at Río Hondo College. Here’s what you need to know:
- For Associate Degrees: You must complete general education, major-specific requirements, and sometimes electives, for a total of 60 units. Additionally, at least 12 units must be completed at Río Hondo College.
- For Certificates: You only need to complete the specific courses required for the certificate program.
Flexible Graduation Requirements: If you’ve maintained continuous enrollment, you have the option to graduate under the requirements that were in place when you started, when you finish, or any time in between. You can even earn multiple majors or degrees if you meet all the necessary criteria.

Finish Your Associate’s Degree
To finalize your Associate of Arts or Associate (AA) or Associate of Applied Science (AAS), you need a total of 60 units. This includes your general education, major requirements, and electives.
If you transferred from another school, at 12 units must be completed at Rio Hondo.

Earn Your Certificate
You only need to complete the required courses for your specific program.

Stay Enrolled Continuously
You can choose to graduate under the requirements that were in place before you started, when you finish, or any time in between. You can even have multiple majors or degrees, as long as you meet all the requirements.
