The mission of Academic Affairs is to deliver high quality instructional services to a diverse community of students pursuing degrees, transfer to four-year institutions, career technical education, and personal enrichment goals.

Academic Affairs upholds the College’s mission. We pursue our goals within a framework of shared values that serve as the touchstone for our decision-making, problem-solving, and resource allocation. These are:

Whether you are a recent high school graduate, a returning student, or a first-time college student, we are here for you. We offer comprehensive programs of study in Health Sciences; Public Safety; Math, Sciences and Engineering; Behavioral and Social Sciences; Communications; Kinesiology, Dance, and Athletics; Performing and Fine Arts; Business, and Career Technical Education. Rio Hondo currently offers 27 Associate Degrees for Transfer, which are designed to ensure transfer to a four-year institution. Additionally, we offer a variety of Career Education programs to prepare you to directly enter the workforce, such as Computer Information Technology, Graphic Arts and Design, Fire Science, and Automotive and Alternative Fuel Technology, to name a few.
In addition, Río Hondo offers students the opportunity to participate in extracurricular activities such as clubs, competitive sports, journalism, and artistic performance. We are proud of our highly competitive intercollegiate athletic sports for men and women, including soccer, basketball, baseball, swimming, volleyball, and wrestling. The college Forensics team is nationally recognized and our Journalism students have represented the college in numerous successful competitions.
