Theater Arts Program Overview

The Theatre Arts Program at Río Hondo College provides an opportunity for students to explore and develop their theatre skills in a wide range of areas. The department produces a minimum of 5 productions a year; all students who audition are guaranteed a part in at least one of the productions.

Technical students will experience professional conditions in our Wray Theatre and the chance to run lights, sound, build sets and even design for one of our shows. If you are interested in directing, we have two production slots each year for student-directed plays. Writers have the opportunity every fall to participate in a 10-minute play festival featuring original plays by our students. Finally, all students are invited to experience professional theatre through our workshop series and field trips to Southern California Theatres.

In addition, selected students travel each year to the American College Theatre Festival and we even offer the opportunity for international travel including such locales as Poland, Scotland, Germany, Japan and China.

So come and find out what Río Hondo Theatre has to offer. The opportunities are here!
