CUMBRES: Empowering Communities Through Innovation
CUMBRES, which stands for Communities Uniting to Model and Bridge Regional Entrepreneurial Success, is a Title V grant funded by the U.S Department of Education. This initiative provides academic opportunities for students eager to create, improve and transform innovative ideas into viable businesses that have a positive social impact. In collaboration with Lemelson-MIT, a national leader dedicated to preparing the next generation of inventors and entrepreneurs, this program fosters entrepreneurial mindsets.
Summer Program Overview
The Summer Invention Program is an educational experience focused on invention education and entrepreneurship. During this program, participants will identify a real-world problem in their community and collaborate with a team to develop creative and innovative solutions.
Through engaging, project-based activities, participants will refine their problem-solving and creative thinking skills. Additionally, they will have the opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals and build valuable personal and professional relationships. A counselor will be available to provide academic support throughout the program.
Summer Program Details
- Dates: Mon – Thurs, July 21-31, 2025 (10 days)
- Times: 9am – 2pm
- Location: Río Hondo College, 3600 Workman Mill Road, Whittier, CA
- Who: 7th & 8th graders, High School Students, College Students and adult learners
- Cost: Free! (lunch provided)
- Deadline to Apply: May 23, 2025, 12pm PST (Space is limited)
Important Note: Applications are due by May 23, 2025, at 12PM PST or once the program reaches capacity, whichever comes first. Participants who are accepted are expected to attend all in-person workshops and participate in the Innovate for Good showcase on July 31st, the program’s culminating event.
