Río Hondo College Update: Federal Funding and Immigration Policies
Posted on January 29, 2025 by Río Hondo College | Category: Homepage News,President’s Message
Hello Río Hondo Community:
We would like to take a moment to address recent concerns regarding federal funding and immigration policies. We want to assure you that students who are receiving federal financial aid such as Pell Grants, CA promise grants, federal work study and student loans will not be impacted by the recent order from the federal government. In addition, as of this morning this federal order was rescinded.
Río Hondo College continues to partner with CARACEN to provide our community with ongoing information supporting our immigrant communities through essential services, including immigration legal assistance, civic participation initiatives and advocacy for workers’ rights and education reform. We do have future workshops planned for students and staff to obtain more information and as soon as we have those available an email will be sent out. You can find more information on CARACEN at Central American Resource Center (CARECEN).
Please read the below step-by-step responses should you be approached by anyone claiming to be from Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE) while on campus. In addition, please refer to the information available on the Red Card Orders that are available both in English and Spanish in our Dreamers Center as well as at our Welcome Back tables this week. This information can be shared should you be approached by ICE anywhere and are available to citizens and noncitizens.
Thank you and please remember that Río Hondo College is here to support you in your success.
Sincerely,
Marilyn Flores, Ph.D. (she/her/ella)
Superintendent/President
