Attention Authors
Rio Hondo College’s 23rd Annual Journal of Art and Literature River’s Voice is now accepting submissions from students, faculty, staff, and alumni in the following categories:
Poetry
- Poems of 40 lines or less
- One poem per page
- Submissions in languages other than English must be accompanied by English translations
- Three poems maximum per author
Short Story
- Fiction no longer than 2000 words
- Submissions in languages other than English must be accompanied by English translations
- Two stories maximum per author
Memoir
- Personal essays no longer than 2000 words
- Submissions in languages other than English must be accompanied by English translations
- Two essays maximum per author
One-Act Drama
- Scripts no longer than 10 pages
- Submissions in languages other than English must be accompanied by English translations
- Two scripts maximum per author
All submissions of poetry, short stories, memoirs, and one-act dramas by Rio Hondo College students enrolled 2023-2024 will be considered for 2024 River’s Voice Creative Writing Contest.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
All literary submissions must be submitted here to be considered.
Pieces that exceed the maximum word or page limits will not be considered for publication.
- Attach submissions below (Microsoft Word files only).
- In the subject line, write “River’s Voice Submission” and identify the genre(s) of your pieces, such as “River’s Voice Submission – Poetry” or “River’s Voice Submission – Memoir.”
- In the message, include the following information: a. Author/Artist Information: Full name, status (student, faculty, staff, alumni), address, and your full student ID number. b. Titles of your pieces.
Waiver Statement
By submitting this form below, I give permission for my work to be considered for publication in River’s Voice, Volume XXIII, 2024. If my creative work is accepted for publication, I consent to grant first publication rights to River’s Voice but understand I will maintain copyright. I also understand that the River’s Voice staff may make minor editorial changes to my work(s) in preparation for publication, and I waive my right to view such changes before publication. If I become a student prize winner, I agree to provide my student identification number to the River’s Voice staff for processing my cash award. By submitting my work, I also give permission to the Forensics department to review and possibly perform my work in intercollegiate student forensics competitions.
